Lighthouse Homeschool Network Joins the Kadayawan Celebration 2026
On August 18 and 19, 2026, Lighthouse Homeschool Network families joined the Kadayawan celebration by exploring the Tribal Food & Houses Village at Magsaysay Park. The activity allowed our homeschoolers to discover the rich cultural traditions of Davao’s tribal communities through their traditional food, houses, and heritage. As they explored the village, learners experienced how culture can be discovered not only through books, but also through food by preparing an Ata dish in a kawayan called Tinalumbo. Linutlot and Tinalumbo are somewhat similar; Linutlot has coconut milk, and Tinalumbo does not.
From Tradition to Table: Preparing Tinalumbo Together
With the guidance of Kuya Elmer, LHN learners had a hands-on experience preparing tinalumbo, a traditional dish, as part of their Kadayawan cultural exploration. More than simply preparing food, the children had the opportunity to learn through doing—following instructions, working together, and discovering how food can tell stories about a community’s culture and traditions. It was a meaningful experience of learning that brought heritage to life, right at the table.
