Our Story & Heritage
Lighthouse Homeschool Network (LHN) began in 2009 with a simple, God-given vision.
Cathy Bernales, together with fellow homeschooler Maria Mimosa Pranza, shared a desire to form a support group similar to the one they had experienced while living in the United States—a community where homeschooling families could gather regularly for devotionals, encouragement, cooperative learning, and fellowship.
That same year, the vision became a reality with four pioneering families: the Bernaleses, Buenconsejos, Pranzas, and Rustines. The families met at Koinonia Theological Seminary, where parents gathered for edification while the children played basketball. In the following months, additional families joined, including the Haos and Ponlas families.
As the community grew, gatherings expanded to include sportsfests, outings, and cooperative activities. One significant meeting took place at Forest Hill Resort, where parents met while the children enjoyed fellowship. During that meeting, the families discerned the need to formally organize and register the group.
On October 26, 2011, Lighthouse Homeschool Network, Incorporated, was officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Among the many milestones in LHN’s early years, the Family Retreat held on July 14–15, 2011, at Eden Mountain Resort stands out as a defining moment. Families gathered for worship and encouragement on a cold, misty evening, strengthening their bonds in faith and fellowship.
Over time, the Lord increased the number of families within LHN. The community expanded its activities to include cooperative classes, sports programs, field trips, retreats, service opportunities, and conferences. Parents volunteered faithfully, children participated enthusiastically, and devotionals remained central to community life.
LHN organized and participated in numerous initiatives, including teachers’ meetings, TESDA and language classes, sports programs, scouting activities, and conferences such as Yes! You Can Homeschool, in partnership with Homeschool Global.
LHN stood by its calling and its guiding slogan: “Assisting to Light the Way.”
